Serial entrepreneur with 25 years dedicated to driving innovation and tech entrepreneurship in Brazil, Latin America and around the globe. I founded Startup Farm, the first startup accelerator in Latin America. As COO of Start‑Up Brasil, I led the country’s first national public program ing startups. I have also served as president of Abstartups and director at Dínamo, strengthening the ecosystem’s voice with government, corporations and investors.

I have ed 10 000+ startups, governments and companies across 20+ countries, helping them raise over BRL 1 billion in venture capital through initiatives I led. Today I am CEO of 10K Digital, a consultancy that leverages Artificial Intelligence, open innovation and acceleration methodologies to unlock rapid growth for companies and innovation ecosystems.

I am a columnist for Estadão and author of the book “10 Mil Startups.” I also maintain a blog where I publish actionable content on AI, innovation and the future of work. I have spoken at events in the USA, Canada, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, among others.

    Escrevi um estudo de caracterização e mapeamento do ecossistema brasileiros de startups, em co-autoria com Vanderleia Radaelli, do BID. Esta publicação detalha duas dimensões de análise do ecossistema de startups brasileiro: os pilares estruturais e os atores principais do ecossistema de empreendedorismo que, ao atuarem de forma inter-relacionada, podem ser vetores de superação dos desafios que persistem no ecossistema. Vale destacar que a caracterização do ecossistema de startups no Brasil foi realizada entre o final de 2018 e princípios de 2019. Desde então, o ecossistema evoluiu, os números ganharam musculatura e mais startups foram alçadas à categoria de unicórnios, o que só corrobora a relevância do tema e o dinamismo atual do setor. O estudo conclui apresentando dois desafios estruturais a serem enfrentados e dez recomendações para ações de fortalecimento do ecossistema de startups no Brasil.

    This research aims to present a methodological model to monitor the evolution of digital startups in acceleration context, based on the case study of the Brazilian public program Start-Up Brasil, that s digital startups, specifically in the period between years 2013 and 2014. Thus, it describes the model developed by the program and its development process, as well as the main elements present in the literature that have ed it, such as the customer development (BLANK, 2003) and lean startup (RIES, 2011) approaches, among others. The research also contextualized the main concepts related to the thematic, such as startup, accelerator, entrepreneurship ecosystem and innovation habitats. By utilizing both theoretical references and the professional report of the author, who held the position of Operations Director of the program during that period, this work is based on a combination of technical report, descriptive research and bibliographic review methods to then introduce the model. Considering the importance of startups to the development of high impact innovations, especially those related with the Information Technology and Communications (ITC) sector, it is expected that this work can contribute to the development of this area, once that monitoring methods, when well applied, can lead to a better quality of the selection and acceleration of startups, and as a consequence, to the development of the ecosystems in which they are present.
